The official test version

So, at the end of the last post, I mentioned that I tweaked the pattern to get the next version of the Uglboo. I decided that I needed to be able to sew them on the machine, both for safety (Saoirse kept getting her fingers in the hand stitches), and for durability. So I widened the base a bit and altered the shape a little on the top of the foot, and viola - the official test version. I will be handing these out to some new moms that I know to try. Once I get some feedback, I'll work on finalizing a pair to sell online. Then everyone can have some! here are what the testing pairs look like.

Saoirse loves these because they match her orange Thirsties diaper cover! I can't wait for other people to try these and to see if other moms and babies like them as much as Saoirse and I do.

Where my inspiration comes from

I would like to share what my inspiration was for this venture. I'm a new mom, and my beautiful daughter Saoirse (pronounced SEER-SHA) was born on June 1, 2010. As a summer baby, she spent most of her time in a diaper and a Onesie. As the weather got colder, I reached for the socks. She hated them, and kept pulling or wiggling them off her feet. As is typical in New England, the temperature was dropping fast, and I wanted something to put on her feet that was warmer than socks, and that she couldn't pull of on her own. So, being a "crafty" sort, I grabbed some scrap fleece from her halloween costume, and cut out a pair of "shoes." I sewed them up by hand with some quilting thread and put them on her feet. I took one look and said to my self, "these are the ugliest booties I have ever seen." But, I loved them. And so did Saoirse. Here are some photos of the original pair.

After some tweaking, they look a bit different now when I make them, but I'll tell that story another time.
