Coming Soon!

My husband has channeled his inner craftiness and has made a great item that will be added to the shop soon. They are called Uglchews - handmade, natural hardwood teethers - perfect for small hands and sore gums. My lovely daughter just cut her first tooth today, and she is loving her new teether that her daddy made her for Christmas. Here's a sneak peek at one:
I'll let you know when my lovely husband has enough made up to put in the store.
Happy New Year to all!

Busy, Busy, Busy....

So tonight I am finishing the cutting (for now) of the booties for Saturday's craft fair. Now all I have to do is sew, sew, sew and prepare my paperwork. So far the holiday season has been quite busy. With the new baby, and all the family gatherings, it seems like time is just flying by. Hopefully this week's fair will bring joy to many, and help support local crafters and businesses this holiday season.
Join us Saturday, December 11th at Beverly Golf and Tennis Club for the Beverly Mothers Group Craft Fair from 10 -3. Shop Local this holiday season!

I picked up a new color at the store today! It's a nice, bright, neon orange. I'll post a picture tomorrow. Check it out! I only have a limited amount, so order now if you would like a pair.

Also, I have made a new "item" in the store. If you would like to purchase multiple colors of Uglboos, you can now purchase 3 at a time at a discounted price! You can pick from any of our solid colors listed on our "Current Colors" page.

Launching the Store

I've launched the Ugllove store! Uglboos are now available for purchase and I'm working on my stock. As I cut the fabric, I'll stay on top of how many are available. I'm using remnants, so I only have so much of each color. As I collect new colors, I'll update the "Current Color" page, so keep checking back if there is a color you're looking for. Or, better yet, send us an email and I'll keep my eye out for it! Don't know what size you need? Check the "Sizing & Care" page for information on what size to purchase. Also, Like us on our Facebook page and get updates on new colors, products and happenings here at Ugllove!

Craft Fairs

I will be participating in at least one craft fair this holiday season. The for sure fair is the Beverly Mothers Club Fair, at the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club in Beverly, MA. It's on December 11, 2010, from 10 - 3. I'm sharing a table with some fellow North Shore moms, and we would love to see you there. Look for our table - the "Bitchin' Baby Boutique," and find some awesome handmade items perfect for holiday gifts for friends or your own little one. I will update you soon on a possible fair in Medfield, MA. Also, I'm making some holiday theme Multi Color Uglboos. Order early, as they are made to order for each customer. If you celebrate a holiday that I don't have listed, order from the "other" category and tell me the colors you would like (up to 3 colors).

Oops!

So, because of a cutting error, all the test versions were the wrong shape. This resulted in a lot of falling off of Uglboos. However, I have cut and sewn and re-cut and re-sewn, over and over until I figured out the problem. And now, I have the perfect pair and can replicate it with all the fun colors I have collected. I'm going to get sewing and get them up for sale on the Ugllove shopping site - www.ugllove.bigcartel.com. Check back to see when the Uglboos are ready to order, and for local craft fair dates.

The tests are out

The official test versions have been passed around. I'm slowly getting feedback, and will have some more on Thursday when I go to group again. I have worked on the pattern and made some final tweaks, and I think I have it down. I will be getting some production done in the next few weeks so I can have some to sell at a couple of local craft fairs. Hopefully everyone will receive them well and I'll be able to get even more out there. I'll keep you posted on the dates of the craft fairs (one in November, one in December) and the progress on my online store so you can purchase them for friends and family.
Also - more things to come ...... Ugllegs anyone?

The official test version

So, at the end of the last post, I mentioned that I tweaked the pattern to get the next version of the Uglboo. I decided that I needed to be able to sew them on the machine, both for safety (Saoirse kept getting her fingers in the hand stitches), and for durability. So I widened the base a bit and altered the shape a little on the top of the foot, and viola - the official test version. I will be handing these out to some new moms that I know to try. Once I get some feedback, I'll work on finalizing a pair to sell online. Then everyone can have some! here are what the testing pairs look like.

Saoirse loves these because they match her orange Thirsties diaper cover! I can't wait for other people to try these and to see if other moms and babies like them as much as Saoirse and I do.

Where my inspiration comes from

I would like to share what my inspiration was for this venture. I'm a new mom, and my beautiful daughter Saoirse (pronounced SEER-SHA) was born on June 1, 2010. As a summer baby, she spent most of her time in a diaper and a Onesie. As the weather got colder, I reached for the socks. She hated them, and kept pulling or wiggling them off her feet. As is typical in New England, the temperature was dropping fast, and I wanted something to put on her feet that was warmer than socks, and that she couldn't pull of on her own. So, being a "crafty" sort, I grabbed some scrap fleece from her halloween costume, and cut out a pair of "shoes." I sewed them up by hand with some quilting thread and put them on her feet. I took one look and said to my self, "these are the ugliest booties I have ever seen." But, I loved them. And so did Saoirse. Here are some photos of the original pair.

After some tweaking, they look a bit different now when I make them, but I'll tell that story another time.
